Rhapsodies for Wind Quintet – No. 1

Description

Rhapsodies for Wind Quintet is a whimsical collection of musical vignettes. No. 1 – “Nwomkro,” draws  inspiration  from  the  Ashanti  song-dance traditions of Ghana. The work attemps to mirror captivating performances by the women-led groups around Kumasi. Rhapsodies for Wind Quintet – No. 1  is  a  rhythmic workout, requiring the ensemble to think as a unified group of singers, dancers, and drummers, all at once! This work is lovingly dedicated to our dear friend and cherished ‘Auntie’ Janet Riehl, whose tales of her travels in Africa, especially in Ghana and Botswana, never fail to inspire and evoke warm memories.
